Tranquility?

I knew someone called Tom,

who every day would boast –

"I always can and always will

of all men, earn the most .

Tom worked and worked from dawn to dusk

    from dusk to dawn again.

Tom seemed to think that he would rust

if all night long he'd lain.

Tom liked to know that God was ‘there'

in case he was in need.

Tom didn't really bother where –

    for his was every deed.

Then one day Tom lost his health

and then he lost his strength.

And then Tom realised his wealth

    would also go at length.

Soon after that, he met Jesus

    hanging on the Cross.

God's Son said He could free Tom –

Sin would be his only loss.

As he looked at Christ -Tom said "

   I've committed not one sin.

I do not need redemption.

On my own I always win."

Christ looked at Tom so sadly.

He would not force Tom's will –

Though He wanted to so badly.

    Christ waits beside Tom still.

Tom carries his own burdens –

    he worries on his own.

He could have peace and joy instead

if he'd give Christ his crown.

Have you ever stopped to think –

that when Jesus was a child –

Some of the people were cruel and bad –

and some were gentle and mild.

Nothing has really changed at all –

in hundreds and hundreds of years .

All over the world you'll find cruel men –

   and many folk in tears.

Men with pride and women too –

who think everything goes to the strong.

They seem to think whatever they do –

   they're never, ever, wrong.

They break all God's commandments.

they call sin by other names.

They do not think they're bad at all.

   they're only 'playing games'.

The fact that others suffer –

and often they do too –

Doesn't really matter –

   except to me and you.

That God could be their Father too –

   they think not relevant.

That Jesus rose and made life new –

   is nothing more than 'cant'.

They will not look at Jesus cross.

they will not see His blood –

Or know that all they have is lost –

as soon as they are dead.

If only they would look at Him.

   accept His love - repent.

Christ would then take all their sin –

   and straighten what was bent.

They would have everlasting Life.

   Christ would comfort their distress.

And in the troubles of this life –

they'd know how He will bless.

There was once a donkey –

    playful -like a child.

An ordinary donkey.

   sometimes a little wild,

His mother carried burdens –

   perhaps a man or corn.

But the little donkey -

had played since he was born.

Then one day some men arrived –

they led him on a rope.

They took him to their Master –

   who caressed the little moke.

He whispered words of courage –

   in the little donkey's ear,

So when He sat upon his back –

   the donkey knew no fear.

To Jerusalem they went –

    amid a happy throng.

The crowd all cried 'Hosanna'

    as the donkey walked along.

He didn't know -how could he?

he took Jesus to His death –

The gentle man who fondled him -

would soon gasp His final breath.

The little donkey jumped with glee –

as he went home to mum.

He boasted to all he could see –

    about what he had done.

So when we feel triumphant –

    about our cleverness -

We should recall the donkey –

   and boast a little less.

David picked five smooth stones –

that he found by a brook.

Goliath was in the way

so those stones David took –

Put one in his sling-shot,

whirled it about his head –

Asked God's Blessing on the stone

   Goliath fell down dead.

Now we must learn from David;

his trust in God complete –

He just took his simple skill

and placed it at God's feet.

We don't need to be brilliant

for God to use us here –

Just use talents He gives us

and trust Him - not our fear.

We need no other armour

   than Jesus Christ provides.

We need no other helper

than God's Son at our side.

Jesus knows the life I've led.

   Jesus sees the years ahead-

Jesus knows the trials I'll meet.-

Before I reach His mercy seat.

Jesus holds me by the hand.

   Jesus will beside me stand.

Jesus gives me strength and health.

Gives His love -it is my wealth.

All I had to do was  say –

“I love You –I’ll go Your Way.

Now I stick to Him like glue –

He will always see me through.

Does God's Peace rule in my heart?

   or does it elude me?

When I'm not living His Way

   there's no tranquility.

When thoughts are like a whirlpool

of currents that are strong –

I go to Him and admit '

He's right and I am wrong.

Then a Peace quite amazing –

God's bounteous Gift of Grace –

Will banish my whirling thoughts

and come to take their place.

                  Annie in Austria

Annie had gone to Austria to ski on mountains tall.

The sun shone brightly every day and was enjoyed by all.

Each morning Annie prayed to God, asked in Christ Jesus I Name –

That everyone of that small group would feel His Spirit's Flame.

She confirmed that she was wearing the Armour of God's Son –

So right throughout all of that day only His Will was done.

She said "Christ Jesus is my Belt. His Truth has set me free.

I have no Righteousness at all except what He gives me.

Christ Jesus is my Breastplate. His strength is in my shoes –

Which are God-given readiness to tell folk His Good News.

I am holding Faith as my Shield – faith in Jesus God's Son –

To quench all the burning arrows  shot by the Evil one.

My Salvation was bought long ago by Christ on Calvary –

So the Helmet I wear is  the Freedom He bought me.

I'm holding fast the Sword  God's Spirit arms me with –

His own Almighty Living Word through which Christ Jesus Lives.

Annie was learning more and more in brilliant sun each day –

Of all the different lifts, and how to ski in different ways.

Then, one day, the sun didn't shine.  No shadows anywhere

The snow settled on Annie’s specs it settled everywhere.

No longer could p1e judge distance.  No longer could she see –

If she was going up or down  or was quite stationary.

The other members of her group  could have grown wings and flown –

For they had completely vanished into the white unknown.

Annie cleaned glasses and goggles to  make the way more plain

But as soon as the put them on  they were snowed up again.

And then almost immediately  poor Annie tumbled down.

When she was parted from her skis her brow creased in a frown.

Although she went back to the spot those skis were not in sight –

And suddenly our Annie knew  the extent of her plight!

With glasses off she saw nothing – with glasses on saw less.

Alone on that snowy mountain,  she asked the Lord to Bless.

God quickly showed her where the skis were buried in a drift –

Then, as she put them on again she felt her spirits lift. ..

The Lord would show her the way down He’d be her Instructor.

He’ll show the way, and guide the feet of those in His Armour. ..

So, should there ever be a time  when you feel quite alone –

And cannot see which way to go don't panic, move or moan.

Speak to Jesus who died for you.  Ask Him to show the Way. .

Don't please yourself, keep trusting Him.

Beginning now –  Today .

I went down to investigate the bottom of the sea -

but turbulence stood up for muck ‘till it's surrounded me .

I didn't know if I went up, or down, or round and round .

I was disorientated and feared I would be drowned.

Then words of wisdom came to mind of great simplicity –

"if you follow the air bubbles you’ll rise unerringly."

Now I’ll apply that principle to all I do each day.

I'll listen for God's still small voice saying "this is the way ...,"

I'll watch out for the 'air bubbles' of God's guidance to flow -

Certain they'1l come to me with love, and what is best he'll know.

If his way  is fraught with danger and with difficulty -

Remind me the safest place is the one he chose for me.

 It’s worth making the effort

   to give happiness today.

So give joy that will warm the heart

   down the future’s narrow way.

Leave nothing till ‘tomorrow’

   for tomorrow may not come.

Then there’ll be only regret

for those things you could have done.

 No situation’s hopeless

No thing need get you down.

Just praise the Lord in all things –

do not so mush as frown.

No matter what your problem

   the Lord God’s praises sing.

He will be with you always

   whatever life may bring.
