He leads me in green pastures? Not always –

on barren, rocky, hills I spend some days.

He always knows what is the best for me –

so into darkness He will sometimes lead.

When He leads from sunshine into the night –

I gaze at Him so I don't faint with fright.

Whether He leads in bright or dismal land –

I trust Him and He always holds my hand.

Because all of my weakness He knows -

He leads me in the dark so I can grow.

When I thank Him for trials and look above

His eyes meet mine -and they are filled with Love.

To Still Waters He does not always lead -

then stormy tempests blow me like a reed

Yet, never will He let me blow from Him -

the King of Love who saved my soul from Sin.

He says, as He once said on Galilee -

"Step out in faith and, trusting, come to Me.

And though that's what I really want to do –

just like Peter, I often fail Him too.

Yet I know His goodness and mercy

all of my life will surely follow me.

Then, when I sleep for the last time on earth

I'll be with Christ who Lives and gave me Birth.

The preacher preached a sermon

    that went over my head.

Not concerned with Jesus

    I just dreamed dreams instead.

Then, to my great dismay

    I saw a hillside bare –

A lot of shouting people

    and soldiers gathered there.

A man was nailed to a cross,

    I heard the hammering.

Then the cross waS lifted high

    above those gathering.

I tried hard to turn away

from Jesus on that tree –

But it broke my heart to know

    He died instead of me.

I know I never will escape~

from what I saw that day.

Yet though Christ died, He rose again

and He'll lead me His way.

I strode cathedral wood.

   The birds chirped overhead.

Gold leaves were on the pathway

   (so beautiful but dead!)

Rabbits popped out of their holes –

they saw me and ran back.

Sunlight shone through the branches

and stopped me on the track.,

Stained glass in man-made churches

   can really not compare -

With sun shining through branches

such as I found just there.

I was in a cathedral

God built for you and me –

To remind us of Himself

  and of His Sovereignty.

Christian, here you’ll find a stone

that you can throw at me -

IF you've always lived your life

    in sinless purity.

I'd have thrown it at you first –

but remembered, just in time –

That each mistake you're making

   could easily be mine.

So I'm apologising

   for each error I make.

I ask you to forgive me

   for our Lord Jesus' sake.

I don’t I belong in darkness

I belong in the light .

I don't belong to Satan.

For Jesus I will fight .

I will no longer waver

   where Jesus goes before.

Evil cannot fence me in.

Christ is the open door .

No one Call ever alter

  Christ Jesus hold on me.

I don't belong in darkness.

  for Jesus set me free.

We all have a heel like Achilles

a chink in the armour we wear.

Satan knows all about that place.

Be sure he’ll attack us just there.

We must recognise our weakness

know where we're most likely to sin

We must place a much stronger guard

at Christ's cross give that weakness to Him.

Then, when we're fighting that evil

we will no longer fight alone.

(God won't do the fighting for us

if He knows that sin we condone. )

It's hard to trust our Saviour –

    when dark clouds loom ahead.

It's when things seem to go wrong

    by Satan, we're tempted,

It's easy, then, to give in –

to doubt and to despair .

Even in the blackest place

    we find Jesus is there.

He holds His hands out to us –

   tells us we're not alone.

The blackest parts are shortcuts

on roads that lead us Home.

My life has been spent searching

    throughout humanity.

Hoping to find one person

   with just good qualities.

Someone who'd not let me down –

   who'd make me feel unique

Someone always at my side

to give the joy I seek.

I am growing older, and

there's one thing I have learned.

There's no human that can give

the one thing I have yearned.

It's only the Lord Jesus

who gives that Joy and Peace.

Jesus is the only One

   who can make heartache cease.

So, if in life you're searching

   for some elusive thing -

Don’t waste more time in looking

  Make Jesus Christ your King.

I've made a resolution

to mark each brand new year.

I’ll exercise my muscles -

in arms and legs and rear .

I'll play badminton and bowls

   I'll swim and I will skj –

(lf I’m not relaxing

   ever so happily.)

But before each new day starts

What ever it may bring –

I will read the Word of God

   and meet Jesus my King.

He'll help me with my problems,

   He'll forgive each mistake –

Then He'll guide me through each day

that is lived for His sake.
