       A Baby?

       Overview

      David

     Two Sons

         Jonah

                                  A Baby?

It was a cold and windy day -the fires were burning bright.

The animals were eating hey. It was a peaceful sight.

A man and woman then came in - with the animals in the warm.

There was no room for them in the Inn. They meant nobody harm.

Later on that cold, clear night -a baby boy was born.

They said His name was Jesus Christ -that this was Christmas morn.

Some shepherds trudged in from the fields - to worship Christ the King.

Mighty power that Babe will wield – and Peace to all He’ll bring.

Thirty years came and went - that Baby was a Man.

He was, by God in heaven sent. He taught as only He can.

For three short years He healed, and taught -of God's anger, might and love.

And many miracles He wrought - in the name of His Father above.

Then one cold spring Friday the chief Priest, full of scorn –

At last knew he had found a way - to have Jesus killed at dawn.

They took Jesus to the governor - and with His hands all tied –

Pontius Pilate had Christ flogged - then He was crucified.

At noon the sky was black as ink. God took away the sun.

So everyone had time to think - of the wicked deed they'd done.

Christ's body was put in a tomb. But mankind He came to save –

So the very next day but one - Jesus came out of the grave.

He talked with His disciples - He even ate some food.

Before He went back to Heaven - His disciples understood –

Their job on earth was starting. They'd walk the Way He trod.

Tell all  'Christ's blood is precious. It's the only way to God.

Many hundred years have passed - since that first Easter morn.

And evermore Christ's love will last - for every baby born.

It is His blood so precious - that cleanses us from Sin. –

And as He Rose from the dead – We, too, can rise with Him

The Word of God is concerned

    with tales of everything.

Of famines, floods and earthquakes –

Of wars and Queens and King's .

Of farming, violence and peace.

   Of shepherds and of bears.

Tales since righteousness did cease –

Leaving man with, all his fears.

Tales of sacrifice and sin.

   Of hunger, thirst and rain.

How, holy wars God's men would win.

How they turned to Him again.

Tales of thieves and fishermen.

Tales of God's own Son on earth.

Tales of men, who, with a pen –

Told us of the Virgin Birth.

Tales of Jesus' life on earth.

Of a cross against the sky.

When He rose -a second Birth.

Tales no man can deny -

Tales of acts of Jesus' men.

   Of violence and pain.

Tales of a lions den.

Now they are with Him again.

The Bible is the only Way –

   To learn about God's Son.

So that we may all, some day-

Go to Him - the battle won.

I dreamed I was David a shepherd lad

caring for sheep that belonged to my dad.

Days on the hillside could sometimes seem long.

I thought of my brother’s all big and strong.

They could wear armour and wield a sword –

so they’d gone to war while I was just bored!

I picked up my sling shot, a stone to throw –

took careful aim, the stone flew, killed a crow –

Did it again, and again, and again –

I was happy then, because it is plain -

Protecting the sheep is what I’m about  -

for crows will pick the small lambs eyes out.

I trusted God to guide me anywhere,

even when I had to fight lions and bears.

Next day my father sent me to the war –

taking food for my brother’s, I’d been before –

This time was different, the troops were afraid

because an awful challenge had been made.

The Philistines had a giant of a man –

his name was Goliath. This was their plan –

Our soldier would fight him. Alone! Just one!

Fate of the armies rested on who won!

All of our soldiers were too scared to fight

    but I trusted in God’s Power and Might . . .

I asked God what He wanted of me.

I knew He said  “Fight I’ll give Victory.”

I said “who does this man think that he is?

God will look after all folk who are His.

Goliath is big and looks frightening

but God is with me – so I will fight him.

The Lord God has saved me many a time

and He will save us from this Philistine.

God does not need swords or spears to save me

He’ll fight this battle and give Victory.”

I chose some smooth stones to sling at his head

I swung my sling shot – Goliath fell dead.

Although every soldier was big and strong

they had forgotten to God they belong.

He always gives strength to do what’s His Will.

In all our tasks He wants to guide us still.

So don’t think that you can’t do any good –

if you are trusting in God as you could.

If you fight for God’s honour, not your own -

and, about difficulties, cease to moan –

with a quite amazing ability -

you’ll fight in God’s Strength for His Victory.

                Two Sons

There was a man who had two sons.

One worked, one just liked to have fun.

The younger one, who liked to play –

said to his father one fine day –

"Please give me my share of your wealth –

I want to care for it myself."

Then, with that money all his own –

it soon had sprouted wings and flown –

Because he spent it recklessly.

then he lived in great poverty.

As he had thrown away his wealth –

he cared for pigs for someone else.

His father's workers were well fed –

while there he was, starving instead!

His sense returned, he ceased to moan –

he got straight up and went back home.

He'd meant to say "I have done wrong –

too late I've learned where I belong.

I'm not worthy to be your son

after the dreadful things I've done."

But long before he had arrived

that father, his son had espied.

And so he ran to welcome him

and to, with love, forgive his sin.

The elder son was very cross

because his brother who'd been lost –

Was given a feast, and was blessed

when he came home quite penniless.

The father said to him "My son

I know good deeds you've always done.

All of my wealth is yours alone.

    Your brother's sins I don't condone-

But I have often feared him dead –

I’m thrilled to know he’s home instead.

Don’t be angry, welcome him –

For your pride’s just a great a sin!

                                      JONAH

God said to Jonah "You must go to Nineveh today.

But Jonah didn't want to, so he went the other way.

He got on a boat going to Spain and thought away he'd  run.

But soon God made it very plain He knew what Jonah'd done.

God sent fierce storms –the sailors prayed Jonah said "God wants me."

This frightened everybody, they threw Jonah in the sea.

God told a whale to go that way and swallow Jonah whole.

Inside the whale he prayed three days he was not drowned at all.

God’s Power he, then, understood. Some land was within reach.

God told the whale to go there and spit Jonah on the beach.

Next time God spoke, Jonah obeyed. To Nineveh he went  =

To say God would destroy them all if they did not repent –

For each man, woman, girl and boy were disobedient.

They turned away from all  their sin and so God changed His mind-

He forgave them all everything.  Jonah said "You 're too kind.

They’re godless, cruel, strong and proud. As mercy is Your rule –

And You've forgiven everything  You've made me look a fool.
